Through Him, By Him, For Him

(Meditating on Psalm 60)

Who will bring me to the strong city?
Who will lead me to Edom?

Give us help from trouble,
For the help of man is useless.
Through God we will do valiantly,
For it is He who shall tread down our enemies.
(Psalm 60:9, 11, 12)

One of our sisters in Christ, Sis. Luchie V., arrives from Saudia Arabia and she testifies in the pulpit with all fervor. They are far from the central church, working in a foreign land, so when they come to visit, their excitement overflows. Sister Luchie and her beloved husband live and work in Riyadh and they also oversee the outreach there – a group of dedicated brethren from our congregation.

She testifies how the church there in Riyadh flourishes against all odds. They meet to worship the Lord two times a week. They go to such lengths and measures just to insure they have safe, undisturbed worship service. Since it is against the law of the land for Christians to gather and worship, they prepare and move stealthily.

They need to cover the floor with thick comforters and the walls with double curtains, open all exhaust fans and switch on air conditioners and let the motor run – these they do to make sure the sound of praising and worshiping will not be heard by neighbors, passersby or the police. Brethren who come to worship need to call Sis. Luchie when they are already outside the door, so it will be opened to them. Now, they have a CCTV camera installed in their house of worship.

On Wednesday afternoons, when Sis. Luchie and her husband get off from work, they will start traveling to different places, fetching other brethren from their places of work and loading them all into their vehicle. She testifies that it will be late Thursday afternoon when they finally get back to their house-cum-outreach station, together with the brethren that they collected, and then, they will prepare for the Overnight Worship Service. The couple need to pick up the beloved brethren one by one for it would be too dangerous for them to be traveling by night for the overnight service, and most of them don’t have their own vehicles.

There was a time that authorities warned of rounding up all Christian congregations, but Sis. Luchie and their group remained unperturbed, going about their regular worship service, trusting in God’s protection and mighty deliverance, while the other congregations lay low for a season.

To say such zeal and fervency in the service of God even in a foreign land where Christianity is banned is encouraging and inspiring is an understatement. It is faith-fortifying!

It is beautiful. Yet, posting her name and, the country might put them in jeopardy.

She freely testifies in our central church and that is viewed by the world via live streaming, because our worship services on Fridays overnight and Sundays are shown live via webcast.

I contacted Sis. Luchie and informed her of your concern. She told me to just use “Sis. Luchie V.” so I edited the post accordingly. Thank you for your care, sister!

Wow live streaming! That is awesome. 🙂 Is the service in English?
I would like to watch it sometime.

Wow, thank you for sharing this information. We don’t fully appreciate the right we have to worship unafraid. Hearing stories like this is faith building.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte
