How to Welcome the New Year

How is the year leaving you? Embattled? Weary? Discouraged? Dismayed? Bitter?

However the year is leaving us, we know we must really pick up ourselves and continue with our journey. We know that to leave the presence of God just because of our difficult present circumstance would never do us any good. It would not profit us at all.

I am not discounting what you are maybe going through now, but I will not enumerate my own difficulties either just to prove that I am familiar with these rough roads and I know how it feels like to be all of the above at one time or another: embattled, weary, dismayed… But I want to remind us of this:

We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed—  always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body. (2 Cor. 4:8-10)

This year is drawing to an end and a new one is coming. Aren’t we thankful that we’re still here, breathing the breath of life?

It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. (Lam. 3:22-23)

Let’s renew our faith in God. Return to His Word. Eat, chew, and digest the Word again. Believe that the words that are spoken unto us by the Lord Jesus – they are spirit and they are life (John 6:63).

Believe His promises. Embrace them, they are ours. Experience the power of the Word once again. So, when the new year comes and afflictions abide still, let’s hold these words close to our bosom:

Thy mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; and thy faithfulness reacheth unto the clouds.

Thy righteousness is like the great mountains; thy judgments are a great deep: O LORD, thou preservest man and beast.

How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.

They shall be abundantly satisfied with the fatness of thy house; and thou shalt make them drink of the river of thy pleasures.

For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light. (Psalm 36: 5-9)

Father, we open our hearts and hands to receive all that you have in store for us in the coming year. We anticipate the outpouring of your blessings upon us as we continue to walk humbly before You, worshiping and serving You in spirit and in truth. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.

A Joyous and Prosperous New Year to All!
