The Voice of the Lord

Bible reading: Psalm 29

The voice of the Lord echoes above the sea.
      The God of glory thunders.
      The Lord thunders over the mighty sea.

The voice of the Lord splits the mighty cedars;
      the Lord shatters the cedars of Lebanon.

The voice of the Lord strikes
      with bolts of lightning.
 8 The voice of the Lord makes the barren wilderness quake;
      the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.
 9 The voice of the Lord twists mighty oaks
      and strips the forests bare.

(Ps. 29: 3, 5, 7, 8, 9 NLT)

The world doesn’t know the voice of the Lord nor heeds it when He speaks. When He calls for man to return to Him, when He calls for repentance – it falls on deaf ears. Until He thunders in the raging storm and speaks in the rushing flood. Until He makes Himself heard in the ravaging quake as He shakes the foundations of the earth.

Then the world listens. As he looks upon the massive devastation and loss, man remembers the Lord and cries out, “It is the hand of God!”

O sorrowing soul, know that the voice of the Lord is powerful and majestic. Fear not, believe, be strong and take courage, for –

The Lord rules over the floodwaters.

The Lord reigns as king forever.

The Lord gives his people strength.

The Lord blesses them with peace.

(Ps. 29:10-11)

May the Lord open our ears and hearts to hear His voice when He calls and speaks to us, so that we may know for certain what is His will for us.

    I’ve been meaning to ask you…. Would you want to guest post sometime?

    • RinaPeru says:

      (About guestposting) Just thinking about it makes me feel nervous, but then, “we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us”, right? So, regarding this, I’d be leaning fully on His grace and wisdom. Just advise me what to do 🙂

  4. I love this scripture, so powerful!!

  5. estherjoy says:

    Quite a long while ago after reading Zephaniah 3:17, I was talking with the Lord and smilingly asked Him what His voice was like. Love these Scriptures that explain that very thing!

    • RinaPeru says:

      Yes, Esther, and I’ve heard testimonies also that they have heard the Lord actually speak to them and His voice was like the sound of flowing waters, cool and gentle, powerful yet soothing to the soul.

  6. patsy says:

    The Lord is very creative in the way He speaks to us. It may be a whisper and we need to be still to hear Him, or He may speak like thunder! Whatever way, we can be sure He will finish what he has started in our life!

  7. Pamela says:

    The God of Glory thunders. God’s Word always speaks so clearly. I do wish everyone could hear.

  8. Charlotte says:

    The picture of the bougainvillea is beautiful. I love that verse in John. And I never tire of reading the Psalms.

    Charlotte
